According to International standards of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) which is a specialized body of United Nations for civil aviation affairs, stating in ICAO Annexure I - Personnel Licencing, as well as the Indian Aircraft Rules-1937 and Aircraft Act-1934 passed by the Indian Parliament, "No aircraft can be released to fly without certification from a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME)".
In other words, any aircraft registered in India, whether it belongs to a private or government airline, government department, business, flying club, or emergency services such as air ambulance, can't fly unless it has been certified for its airworthiness (safe operation) by a licensed AME, these license are issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India as per the CAR-66 regulation.
Even if you hold a degree in engineering or allied science/ M.Tech or Ph.D. even in aeronautical or aerospace engineering from a national or international university, you can't certify the maintenance on aircraft for its airworthiness unless you have completed the curriculum of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering as prescribed in the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR-66) and obtained AME license from the DGCA under the Government of India, or have the authorisation as per the CAR-66.
We understand that aeronautics isn't just a field of study-it's a gateway to innovation, exploration, and considerable opportunities in the field of Research, Design, Development and Production of Aeroplanes, Engines and its related components, accessories, test equipment, tools etc.
Often, students pursuing degree in Aeronautical or Aerospace engineering and opt to enter in the Aircraft Maintenance field to explore the opportunities in the field of aircraft maintenance engineering which are in addition to the research, design, development and production industry of aircraft and its related components & accessories.
This program helps the aspiring students (who are undergoing aeronautical/ aerospace and other allied engineering courses) to pass the necessary module examinations as defined by DGCA. And after obtaining the necessary aircraft maintenance experience which enables the candidate to appear for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's Licence as per the regulations specified in CAR- 66 DGCA Govt. of India in order to become a Certifying Staff in Maintenance Repair and Overhauling Organization (MRO) at various Regional/ Domestic/ International Airlines which is a mandatory requirement as per the Indian Aircraft Act/ International Civil Aviation Organisation standards.
